MID-CONSTRUCTION TESTING

EXISTING-BUILDING TESTING

Blower-door testing and smoke diagnostics can be used to locate leakage in existing homes, conversions and retrofit projects. The findings help inform remedial work and verify improvements.

FINAL COMPLIANCE TESTING

Mandatory airtightness testing and certification for new dwellings and other buildings where required under the Building Regulations. The test result can be coordinated directly with the as-built SAP assessment and EPC.

WHAT IS AN AIRTIGHTNESS TEST?

An airtightness test measures the amount of uncontrolled air leakage through gaps and cracks in the building envelope. It helps demonstrate compliance with Part L, identify workmanship issues and assess how effectively the building retains heat.

Testing can be carried out during construction to locate leaks while they remain accessible, or at completion to provide the final result required for Building Regulations and the as-built SAP assessment.

From Booking to Certification

Project review
You provide the drawings, site address, envelope area or dimensional information, target airtightness result and anticipated test date.

Pre-test preparation
A test-preparation checklist is issued beforehand so the building team can ensure the property is ready for testing.

On-site testing
The blower-door equipment is installed in an external doorway and the building is tested across a series of pressure differences in accordance with the relevant testing standard.

Results and certification
The result is calculated and discussed on site. Subject to a valid test, the airtightness certificate is issued for Building Control and the final SAP assessment.
